Stop Me!

Emerald Ash Borer

The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), an exotic beetle with origins likely in Asia, was first noted in Michigan in 2002 and is now infesting 35 states and parts of Canada.  Unfortunately, the EAB has arrived in our community!

Ash trees make up approximately 25% of the tree cover in our area.  Once the EAB infests an ash tree, inevitably it will die.  If the infestation is not too far-gone or has not yet started, the tree may be preserved if treated by a tree specialist or arborist.

Dead trees are ugly, dangerous, and decrease the value of the properties they are on and surround.  They are expensive to remove, too.  The average cost of removing a dead mature tree is about $700.00.

If you have ash trees on your property, it is not too late to take steps to preserve them.  According to the Arbor Day Foundation, having healthy mature trees on a property increases its value by as much as 15% -- a fraction of the cost of preserving the trees.

If you are interested in learning more about what it would take to save your ash trees and thereby maintain your property’s value, contact a certified arborist for details.  There are several certified arborists in our area.
